Griffith Base Hospital

Griffith Base Hospital is a 90-bed facility with 2 well-equipped operating theatres. There is general surgical, general medical, paediatric and obstetric emphasis. The hospital is also serviced with a 24hr Emergency Department, ICU/CCU and an extensive Outpatient Clinic.

There is also a rehabilitation and pain service on-site. Residents, VMO's and visiting staff specialists from St Vincent's Hospital (Sydney) staff the hospital. Diagnostic and support services within the hospital include Radiology (public and private) Pathology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, and Blood Bank department. The hospital performs 3,300 operations per annum.

Many visitors find that the attractions of Griffith make the city so special, such as Pioneer Park, the largest museum west of the mountains and the Griffith Regional Art Gallery, with two galleries and regularly changing exhibits. A city that in just over eighty years since it was proclaimed, has grown to a happening place with nearly 24,000 happy inhabitants and the biggest city along the Kidman Way. It is the hub of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, which is undoubtedly one of the worlds greatest engineering feats, bringing life giving water all the way from the Snowy Mountains. With the taming of the original harsh environment brought about by the irrigation, the area has evolved into one of Australia's largest producers of wine, rice, poultry, eggs, citrus, stone fruits and vegetables.

Education

Education facilities are excellent in the area, with public and private schools offering education from Kindergarten to Year 12. There are three high schools and thirteen primary schools, which are conveniently located throughout the area, and all are committed to quality educational outcomes. In addition numerous local pre-schools, playgroups, and childcare facilities provide support and pre- education services. The highly acclaimed Charles Sturt University, located atWagga Wagga is a two hour drive to the east. The University is currently investigating opening a campus in Griffith. Vocational education and training is offered through a number of agencies, notably the Griffith Campus of TAFE, Griffith Skills Training Centre, Griffith International College, and Griffith Adult Learning Association. A state of the art Wine and Food Training Centre has recently been established at the TAFE campus in recognition of the huge potential for development in these industries.

Transport

Rail

Griffith is a part of the national freight rail network with a daily-containerised freight service between the region and Sydney ports, enabling the speedy movement of large volumes of export commodities. Passenger services operate between Griffith and Sydney, with a weekly rail service and daily bus/rail links, as well as a daily bus/rail service between Griffith and Melbourne.

Road 

Griffith is strategically located, having access to four major highways - the Sturt Highway linking Sydney and Adelaide is accessed 30km to the South; the Newell Highway linking Melbourne and Brisbane can be accessed 60km to the East; the Mid Western Highway linking Brisbane and Adelaide is accessed 60km to the North; and the Kidman Way linking Melbourne and Darwin passes through the City of Griffith itself. This proximity to major interstate transportnetworks enables the relocation of product to five capital cities in the shortest possible time. Griffith is also on the road train freight link and is a breakdown point for road trains. Driving time to Melbourne is five hours, Sydney six hours, and Canberra four hours.

Air 

Griffith has a well serviced airport with Hazelton Airlines providing 28 services to Sydney each week with their 36 seat Saab aircraft. Aircraft refuelling and servicing facilities are provided on site. In addition, GriffithAero Club offers private charter. Around 40,000 passengers per year pass through the Griffith airport.
