Visa & Nurse Registration in South Australia

All nurses wishing to work in Adelaide or elsewhere in the state of South Australia must first register with the Nurses Board of South Australia (NBSA). Nurses currently registered in another Australian state or in New Zealand need not begin the registration process from scratch rather those nurses can transfer your registration by completing a mutual recognition form.

The NBSA stress that each case is assessed on its individual merits and candidates must conform with the NBSA Registration Criteria.

Nurse Registration

Professional Connections will assist you with all aspects of Registering as a Nurse in South Australia. To be eligible for employment as a nurse in South Australia, registration with the NBSA must be held. Each Candidate must pay the registration fee of AUS$ 120.00. The NBSA has its own NBSA Fee Structure, which sets all possible costs it may incur.

The NBSA will assess overseas applications individually in order to place them on the Register. It may take 4-5 weeks to receive feedback from the NBSA once they have received a complete application.

For Nurses travelling to South Australia, Professional Connections will send you the application paperwork if required. We will then check the paperwork for you to make sure that you have included all the required paperwork before submitting it to Australia.

Professional Connections is not allowed to make any corrections or changes to your NBSA application form therefore if the application is incomplete it will be returned to you.

Once you have obtained the NBSA registration your prospective employer in South Australia can apply for a sponsorship nomination. When the nomination has been obtained you can apply for your Sponsorship 457 Visa (online at www.immi.gov.au) or via post to the Australian authorities. You cannot apply for any type of employment visa without registering with the NBSA.

Visa Application

For the campaign to South Australia all of our nurses will travel with a long-stay temporary business visa, commonly known as the 457. The Long-Stay Temporary Business Visa subclass 457 is valid for up to four years and requires your potential employer to sponsor you and (if necessary) your spouse and dependants. Application for the 457 cannot begin until you accept a job offer from a hospital in Australia and you are registered with the NBSA, this process takes on average eight weeks. There are a number of requirements to be met prior to a hospital applying for your Sponsorship Nomination. Each candidate will be assisted through this process by his or her personal Recruitment Co-ordinator. The 457 Visa is perfect for nurses looking to acclimatise without, feeling trapped or stuck in one country.

More detailed information on the 457 and its procedure on the DIAC website.
