Tertiatry Education
Most Australian universities have two student intakes, one in March and one in July/August. Universities differ in the courses they offer and there are minimum
entry standards and requirements for each course. The fee structures aredifferent too.
Students can choose to pay fees for each year, or use a student loan system called the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS). If using the HECS
scheme, students gradually pay off their education after they begin earning an income at a certain level.
See the HECS website: www.hecs.gov.au for more information.
If you hold formal qualifications from an overseas university and you wish to continue your studies or undertake post-graduate studies, check with the
university you wish to attend. Tell them about your overseas studies and qualifications. The National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR) provides information on how to have postsecondary overseas academic qualifications recognised in Australia. Some trades or professions offer‘bridging’ courses to convert your qualifications to Australian standards.
