Contract Duration
Depending on the type of Visa you apply for you can choose to travel from a period of 3 months up to 4 years or even apply for permanent residency. There are however requirements with each Visa type.
The Working Holiday Visa has a minimum requirement of 6 months with the same employer, may last up to one year, but cannot be extended after this time. At the end of the 'working holiday' year, you may apply for a different type of Visa.
The 457 Visa is valid for up to four years, however as you are sponsored by a specific hospital to obtain this Visa, you must work a minimum of six months for the sponsoring employer. If employment ends, for whatever reason, you must re-apply for the 457 with a different sponsor, or apply for a different type of Visa.
The Permanent Residency Visa, obviously has no limit to how long you may remain in employment (local retirement age: 65 for men, between 60 and 65 for women depending on Date of Birth), however the sponsorship which comes from a Permanent Residency Visa requires that the candidate must spend at least 3 years with the employer who sponsored them.
After these minimum times of employment have been met, our candidates enjoy the same freedoms as Australian citizens, providing of course, they adhere to the guidelines of the Australian authorities.
